Shiva Statue

Shiva Statue

A beautiful gigantic statue is installed at Harakere village very close to the Farm. Also Shivappa Nayak Palace is very close by situated on the banks of river tunga in the busy lanes of Shimoga city. A 16th century place built by Shivappa nayak of Keladi. A good architectual piece built with rose wood. The palace is equipped with museum which has several interesting and rare archaeological collections of stone carvings and antiques of Keladi period. Recovered idols of Hoysala and Chalukya period from the early 16th century to late 18th century are displayed here and Koodli lies 18 km and is the place where the Tunga and Bhadra river meet and flow together as Tungabhadra.


Gajanur Dam

Gajanur lies 9 km to the southwest. The dam built across the Tunga River The location is ideal for picnics and the the reservoir resource provides additional irrigation potential to the Farm.


Tyavarekoppa Lion Safari

Tyavarekoppa Lion Safari

lies about 12 km from River View Farm Stay Harakere.The safari is spread around 200 hectares in the thick forest.Recreation and Sightseeing for visitors are organized regularly by the forest department. The safari can be best enjoyed in the jeep safaris conducted by the forest department. Lions, tigers and deer are housed here and a safari ride is organized by Forest department vehicle to spot the wild animals. Safari drives are conducted in cage vans to get closer glimpse of wild animals.


Sakrebailu Elephant Camp

lies 10 km from River View farm Stay. As the name suggests, this is a training camp where elephants undergo training from mahouts.If you can make it to the Sakrebailu elephant camp before 9 am, you can catch a glimpse of the elephants bathing. It is an amazing experience to see the elephants play and bath in the Backwaters of River Tunga. Sakrebailu Elephant Camp is a must visit travel destination.


B R P Dam

BRP Dam

lies 28 km from River View Farm on the way to Lakkavalli. This is the dam built on the Bhadra river with a maximum height of 186 feet (57 m). The dam is beautiful with full of water through out the year.The dam site is very picturesque.Like any other Dam site there are lots of forested islands with the hill ranges forming a beautiful backdrop.There is also Bhadra wildlife Sanctuary in the backwaters of this dam.The Bhadra wildlife sanctuary covers an area of 492 KM square.One can spot wild animals like Tiger,leopard.Herds of Elephants,Spotted dear.The sanctuary has started a tiger-conservation project called 'Project Tiger' which is an initiative from the Indian Government. The Twilight hour is the best time to visit this area.One can capture amazing pictures


Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary

Home to wide variety of birds is located on the NH-13 at a distance of 27 km from River View Farm Stay on the way to Thirthahalli. The place is surrounded by dense lush green forest and the flow of river Tunga has created a small island which adds to the beauty. The dense trees on the island provides shelter to migrating birds. Birds like median egret, cormorant, darter and snakebird., Bellakki, etc immigrate from different parts of the world during may season for breeding A high platform is built on the edge of river Tunga for bird watching. Boats are available for a closer watch.

Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary is the natural habitat of varied species of local as well as migratory birds. The Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary is covered by a dense forest with river Tunga flowing through it.

Mrugavadhe

Mallikarjuna Temple

is 80 km from River View Farm Stay famous for its Mallikarjuna temple and its scenic beauty. Mrugavadhe means Killing of an animal in Sanskrit language. A legend related to the times of Ramayana, indicates that Maricha, an associate of the Lanka king Ravana came in the disguise of a golden deer to enchant Sita, the wife of Rama. When Sita requested Rama to get her the deer, Rama followed the deer and killed it. This incident is supposed to have happened near a place called Mrugavadhe

Jog Falls

 A spectacular series of waterfalls is a major tourist attraction of the district and is located 110 Kms away from River View Farm Stay. The Sharavathi River takes a spectacular jump from a height of 292 m in four distinct falls to form the highest waterfalls in India. The best time to visit these falls is soon after the monsoon season during July and August.


Agumbe

89 km south-west of River View Farm Stay, is unforgettable for its glorious sunset  Agumbe  is a small town famous for being the location where the television serial Malgudi Days (based on a novel of the same name by the famous writer, R K Narayan) was shot. This town also attracts tourists who come to see a beautiful sunset over the valleys of the Western Ghats. On a clear day, the Arabian Sea can be seen from here. You can also see places such as barkana falls, jogi gundi, nishani hills and onake abbe falls which are very beautiful. This place is also known for its wild life, mainly king cobras. This is referred to as the world's first king cobra sanctuary. Agumbe is among the places in India that receive very heavy rainfall earning it the sobriquet, 'Cherrapunji of the South'. It is also the home of the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station, the only permanent rainforest research station in India.


Kodachadri

Kodachadri is a beautiful hill station in the Western Ghats. It is 130 km from River View farm Stay. This is the highest peak in Shimoga District with dense forests (altitude - 1343 meters above sea level) in the Western Ghats. En route to the peak you will also find a moderate sized water fall deep inside the evergreen forest of Kodachadri, which is called 'Agastya Teertha'. Paradise for trekkers, the place attracts lot of trekkers around Karnataka state. Kodachadri is situated at 1411 ft above sea level and 115 kms from shimoga city. A beatific hill abode that overlooks the panoramic Western Ghats. It is clothed with splendid evergreen forests. The first portion of the hill is very steep and difficult to ascend. On the west, the hill descends almost perpendicular for about 4026 ft, meeting the South Kanara forests that lie below. The sea appears quite close, and on clear day, you can also see the ships go byThe peak presents a not to be missed life-time opportunity in the evening as the sun sets in the west.


Kavaledurga

is a trekking spot around 80 km from River View Farm Stay. The ruins of large fort constructed at Kavaledurga around 9th century AD still remains on the hill top at an altitude of 1541 meters. Enchanting panoramic view of the Western Ghats can be seen from the top of the hilllock. There are about seven levels in the fort, with each level having a gateway leading to the other. Sadly the Kavaledurga Fort is now in a ruined state to a large extent except few structures like the two fortresses and some temple like Lakshminarayana Temple, the Mylaareshwara shrine still stand strong The two circular bastions that form a gateway to the second level of the fort are called "Nagaari Baagilu". The Lakshminarayana Temple on the top of a huge rock in the fort premises still remains strong. As you move on, you can come across the ruins of Darbar Hall and Queen's private swimming pool.


Sringeri

Sringeri Saradha Temple

is 105 km from River View Farm Stay. This place is famous for the Sharadha temple and Sringeri Mutt  Sringeri is the site of the first matha established by Adi Shankaracharya, Hindu theologian and exponent of the Advaita Vedanta philosophy, in the 8th century C.E. It is located on the banks of the river Tunga.


Ambuthirtha & Chibbalagude

The village of Ambuthirtha is about 60 km north-west of Harakere  River View Farm Stay. The Sharavathi River originates here and a Shivalinga is installed at the spot. Chibbalagude is 50 km famous place for Siddivinayaka temple & Fish in Tunga river, (like Shringeri).
